After completing his medical practitioners education Francis Tan (1957) worked as a doctor at nursing homes in the region of Helmond. He advanced to head of the paramedical service in 1994. In 1998 he commenced his employment at Kempenhaeghe as head of treatment of Long-stay (the so called AWBZ-care; 440 employees). Nowadays Francis Tan occupies several positions within Kempenhaeghe: Head of treatment and sector manager Long-stay, doctor, first physician, member of the central policy forming organ and the central management committee, member of the Research & Development committee, chairman of the EPISODE programme steering committee.

Martien van Bussel (1980) completed his study of electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2005. He wrote his Master’s thesis on ‘Detection of epileptic seizures based on heart rate patterns’ at Kempenhaeghe. Subsequently he joined Hobo as project manager of the E-SMS project. Since 2007 his activities have broadened to the technical as well as organizational and managing aspects of Hobo as a whole. To professionalize these activities he started a MBA study at TSM Business School in 2009. He also supports projects of the Clinical Physics department at Kempenhaeghe, e.g. the development of an innovative custom trigger driven digital video system. Martien is a member of the EPISODE programme steering committee.

Johan Arends (1952) finished his doctoral of medical science in 1976 at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He continued his training, wrote his dissertation on experimental epilepsy in 1984 and became a neurologist in 1986. After that he had a research laboratory for research and development of sleep disorders at Janssen-Cilaq B.V. He started a policlinic for sleep disorders at Kempenhaeghe in 1998, the predecessor of the current Centre for sleep-wake disorders. Johan joined Kempenhaeghe in 1995 as head of the department of Clinical Neurophysiology, the group that is responsible for a large part of the scientific research for Hobo. He is involved in a large number of research project varying from epilepsy to learning disorders and sleep-wake issues. Johan is a member of the EPISODE programme steering committee and member of the Research & Development committee. Since 2009 Johan combines his job at Kempenhaeghe with a part-time appointment at Hobo.

Constantin Ungureanu (1978) has an educational background in medical physics (Physics Faculty, Bucharest Romania). In 2010 he obtained his PhD from Twente University in the BioMedical Photonic and Imaging Group with a dissertation on applications of gold nanoparticles in cancer therapy. In October 2010 he joined the Eindhoven Technical University (Signal Processing Systems Group) and Hobo Heeze as a postdoc. His work involves the development of a real time detection system for epileptic seizures using accelerometers and heart rate as part of a bigger project called Tele-epilepsy.

Anna-Maria (1968) graduated cum laude at the Radboud University Nijmegen (Solid State Chemistry Group). She continued her scientific carreer with a Ph.D. at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. She has been working for Philips Research since 1998 as senior scientist and projectleader, amonst others on the development of implantable drug delivery systems. Since 2010 Anna-Maria is head of the Clinical Physics department en member of the Research & Development committee as well as the EPISODE programme steering committee.

Furthermore the name of A.V. (Andrei) Sazonov, M.Sc. PDEng. cannot be omitted here. He is combining the finalization of his Ph.D. project - on automatic detection of epileptic seizures from the electroencephalogram - with a full time job outside of Kempenhaeghe.
